Down Jackets Donation to Needies in Remote Villages in Xinjiang and Guizhou Provinces
Since the beginning of the pandemic, China’s zero-Covid policy has kept its borders closed to foreigners and visitors. With the help of Guizhou Red Cross, Tongs Charity Foundation can still extend our helping hands to the poor in Xinjiang and Guzhou Provinces, of which have two of the highest poverty rate in China. Yutian County in Xinjiang, for example, has a poverty rate of around 25%. Despite rapid growth in China in recent years, the historically poor region continues to struggle with underdevelopment and emigration.
Due to the pandemic and rural conditions, Red Cross had encounter numerous problems, such as sudden Covid surges in the regions, and the logistics of the many deliveries in isolated villages. Sometimes, it required as many as 4.5 hours of driving time to get from one village to another. Due to the lacking in modern technology facility in these villages, they had to bring their own printer and such, and converted their car into a moving office. Tongs Charity is very grateful for their tenacity in helping and reaching out to these population.
