Donating Down Jackets to the Poor, Disabled, and Elderlies in the city of Jiu Ping Zhen, Guizhou

Guizhou, according to Unicef, has the largest poverty population of 2.95 million in China. The root causes of its poverty were a combination of mountainous roads, poor farming soils and water shortages. Villages are often dispersed and transport difficult. Agriculture is the chief occupation there, and it also has a good percentage of migrant workers.

One of our directors, John Tong, visited a number of isolated rural villages, and shared with the rest of us photos taken there. Never have we expected to see that kind of poverty. The living condition was beyond our comprehension.

Tongs Charity has decided to offer the comfort of warm coming winter months by donating down jackets to the disabled, impoverished villagers and the elderlies inside a care home for the seniors in Jiu Ping Zhen (酒坪鎮), near the city of Guiyang, in the province of Guizhou. With the help of Guiyang Red Cross, many of our Board of Directors traveled great distance to distribute the warmth and care. We were delighted to see the smiles that our down jackets had brought.
