Message from our President
Dear Friends of the Charity:
Year 2016 was a successful year for the Charity. Towards the year end, we have made a substantial contribution in donating 4,000 winter jackets to the singly living, elderly people living under the government’s care in Xiaogan City (孝感市) of the Hubei province (湖北省). We chose the country side of Xiaogan city as a first start because of its legendary stories in its filial piety back in the year 454. This event was planned over a year, and was achieved with the great help from Mr. He Jin Hui (何金暉)of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR (中聯辦)and procurement and logistics from John. Our president came over from San Francisco for the event, and was joined by John, myself, Janyu, our newly elected Board Member and his wife Jennie. We also in deep gratitude to China Volunteer Services at Xiaogan City (孝感市青年志願者協會) in assisting us in identifying the needed elderly in the government’s sponsored nursing homes and helped distributing the jackets. Over three days in Xiaogan City, we were deeply moved by the elderlies responding with great emotions upon receiving these jackets. They were simply forgotten for a long period of time.
Year 2016 also marked a sad year for the Tongs Charity. We deeply mourned the passing away of our Board Member, Phill Tong, in September last year, who over the past many years contributing significantly in help setting up and promoting of the Charity. He has fought long time with his failing liver and kidneys. Phill was dearly missed by the Charity.
Looking forward, we will continue our efforts in helping the needy people in China, primarily on the elderly care and the education for the younger generations. We will also be working publishing the poems (詩詞抄) of our founding father Prof. Ting Wah Tong(湯定華). To this end, we thank Mr. Kwok-Ming Lee (李國明), a poet and an artist himself, on the editing. Unfortunately, Mr. Lee suddenly passed away last year and the work will be continued by Ms. Y. W. Chou(鄒頴雯)of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. We thank again for the untiring efforts of Mr. Lee and Ms. Chou and look forward to the publications.
Best wishes to you and your family.
